Ginger-laden truck worth lakhs overturns in Balasore, driver injured

Balasore: A truck carrying ginger worth lakhs of rupees overturned and fell nearly 15 feet below a national highway near Mathani Chowk under Basta police limits in Balasore district early Monday morning, leaving the driver injured.

The accident occurred around 5 am while the truck was en route from Assam to Visakhapatnam.

According to preliminary reports, dense fog coupled with high speed led to the driver losing control of the vehicle, resulting in the mishap. Local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police. A petroleum emergency response team also reached the scene and assisted in the rescue operation.

The injured driver was rescued from the mangled vehicle and shifted to Basta Hospital for treatment. Police officials said his condition is stable.

Following the incident, Basta Police arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation. Efforts are underway in coordination with the truck owner to safely recover the vehicle from beneath the bridge. The ginger consignment was found scattered at the accident site.

Authorities have urged people not to gather near the area as recovery operations are in progress. The ginger load is expected to be shifted to another vehicle with due caution. Further details are awaited pending a detailed investigation.
