Gave my best shot and it happened: Odisha shooter Shriyanka
New Delhi: Odisha girl Shriyanka Sarangi, who made India as well as her state proud by winning gold medal in 10m air rifle mixed team event at the H&N Cup International Shooting Competition held in Germany, returned to India today and said that she is really happy with her performance. Shriyanka and her team partner Akhil Sheoran defeated their Russian opponents to win gold medal at the event which was held from January 23-27 and witnessed participation of shooters from more than 20 countries.
The gold medallist who hails from Sambalpur shared her experience and her life goals in an exclusively interview to OTV. Here are the excerpts:
“It was a fabulous experience in Germany and my shooting was up to the mark. The combined final scores of me and my partner bettered even the current world record by 0.9 points. I was able to shoot better for which I am happy,” Shriyanka said while speaking about her experience at the event.
On her level of preparation, Shriyanka said “When we go into the competition, we don’t give much thought to the results. Our aim was to perform on the lines of our practice sessions. Munich range favours high scores for which I was both excited and confident to perform. Also, my practice sessions were really good, so I wanted to give my best shot and it happened too.”
When asked about her inspiration and role models behind her success, she said “I have been supported and inspired at many levels and by many people. My major inspiration was Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore wining Olympic medal for the country. My family has been an inspiration with my father being a Ranji Trophy player, my uncle a national tennis coach and my brother a tennis player. There is a lot of support for sports in my family.”
Speaking about the support provided by Odisha government and her sponsors, Shriyanka said “The Odisha government has always been supportive and I hope that it continues to be so in future too. The government and sponsors provide me with the necessary financial support.”
