Berhampur: Congress leaders in Ganjam district today welcomed Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi`s announcement for setting up a wagon factory at Sitalapalli here. "The proposed wagon factory will boost the economy of the area by providing jobs for unemployed youths directly or indirectly," senior Congress leader and former union minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu said.
He urged the railway ministry to start the railway project without delay. Ruling BJD leaders, however, said there was nothing new inn the announcement by the railway minister. His predecessor Mamata Banerjee had already announced the project in the last year`s budget, BJD MLA (Gopalpur) Pradeep Panigrahi said.
As soon as the then railway minister had announced the project the state government had identified around 101 acre at Sitalapalli, about 20 km from here, he said. Despite the selection of the land, he said, the railway ministry did not implement the project.
