Gangster Tito injured in police encounter
Cuttack: Dreaded criminal and gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali was injured in an encounter carried out by the Special Task Force (STF) near Chandikhole of Jajpur district today.
According to sources, Tito was initially admitted to the Barchana hospital for treatment and later shifted to SCB in Cuttack. The encounter was carried out by a team led by Crime Branch DIG Himanshu Lal near Chandikhole, informed sources.
Earlier in the day, there were reports that Tito was picked up from his house in Dilarpur of Kendrapara by unidentified persons in a red beacon vehicle. When contacted the local police denied having any knowledge about the same.
More than 100 cases including tender fixing and other crimes are pending against Tito. He had also allegedly attacked terror suspect Abdur Rehman’s brother.
Sources informed that Tito was hiding from police for the past few days as he had not received bail in connection with some of the cases pending against him.
Meanwhile, Tito’s wife Benjir Bibi stated “At around 2 PM, eight persons came in three bikes and picked up my husband from his office. When I asked at the Kendrapara police station, they feigned ignorance about the matter. Later I came to know, my husband has been injured in police encounter. Even I am not allowed to meet him.”
“I don’t understand why police are doing this. When he has become a good person, he is being mistreated,” she added.
Later in the day, Crime Branch ADG Santosh Upadhaya infomred that six associates of Tito were arrested and two pistols and weapons were seized.
