Cuttack: Gangster Sushant Dhal Samanta was awarded 5-year & 3-year jail terms, to be served concurrently, by the Cuttack CJM court today in connection with two different cases lodged at Bidanasi police station.

Sushant, brother of Sushil Dhal Samanta was sentenced to 5 years in jail along with a fine of Rs 25,000 in connection with a firing case of 1999.

In another case he has been awarded 3 years in jail along with a fine of Rs 25,000.

Earlier this year, Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh had informed that Sushant had planned the attack on one Bijay Kumar Pal after he denied paying extortion.

Dhal Samanta brothers (D-brothers) were arrested after a special operation launched by Commissionerate Police in January, 2016. A huge cache of arms and ammunition, cash and other luxury items were recovered from their hideout in Bhubaneswar and residence in Cuttack.

Last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials had attached properties to the tune of Rs 8.82 crore of four key associates of D-brothers.
