Bhubaneswar:Gangster Raja alias Sandeep Acharya along with his accomplice Chagala were awarded four year jail terms by the additional sessions judge here today in the much talked about Arun mantri kidnapping and attempt to murder case. Raja, the main accused in the case faced charges under sections 365 and 506 of the Indian penal code.
The additional sessions court had examined 17 witnesses in the case which took two years for the verdict. The gruesome incident dates back to April 9, 2008. According to the chargesheet, Raja along with Chagala on that date kidnapped Arun Mantri, brother of album artist Bidusmita Mantri, at gun point from his house in the OUAT locality. The duo then took Mantri to a secluded place at Gadhiakhal on the outskirts of the city and forced Mantri to give calls to Leslie Tripathy, Bidusmita and Jubulee Sundaray from his cell phone. Raja using Arun Mantri`s mobile had threatened all the four.
Later, while releasing Arun from his clutches, Raja Acharya had warned him not to report the matter to the police.
