Puri: The district police after lots of turmoil for over 36 hours today afternoon succeeded to make an entrance into village Gambhari under Brahmagiri police station which was turned into a battle field by the workers of two political parties. The clashes were  a fall out of the recently concluded panchayat polls.

The police said that the clashes erupted on Janaury 23 over political differences and took a violent turn. Both the groups hurled over 500 crude bombs and exchanged fire even. The police was not even able to break open into the village for about a day and half.

The exact number of villagers injured in the group clashes was not known immediately though several have been injured from both the sides. The village Gambhari wore a deserted look as the male members have left Gambhari appprehending police action.

The police and the district administrations were making efforts to bring back normalcy in Gambhari village. The situation though under control was still tense and the police today conducted flag march in the village. A large contingent of police forces have been pressed into service to maintain law and order in the village.
