The Gajapati Police have uncovered a major cybercrime racket in the district, successfully tracing 49 bank accounts allegedly linked to fraudulent activities.

Action Taken and Investigation

Out of the 49 traced accounts, 11 were identified for further investigation, leading to the registration of cases at four separate police stations. Approximately Rs. 4 lakh was seized from the identified accounts, and the accounts were subsequently frozen as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police sources revealed that the traced accounts are suspected to have been used for unlawful financial transactions, and further scrutiny is underway to understand the full scope of the fraud.

Special Drive Against Mule Accounts

As part of an intensified drive against cybercrime, the Gajapati Superintendent of Police, Jatindra Kumar Panda, announced that district police would focus on cracking down on mule accounts, which are often used to launder illicit funds.

“We are going to carry out a special drive against mule accounts, in alignment with a wider state-level initiative being carried out across Odisha. Gajapati Police will conduct a targeted effort on this issue. We have already registered cases against mule accounts in several banks within the district,” Panda stated.

The cybercrime crackdown is part of an ongoing initiative to curb financial fraud in the district. Police officials have assured that additional scrutiny of suspicious accounts will continue in the coming days, and the district will remain vigilant in tackling cybercrimes and financial fraud.
