A cross-continental relationship that began 15 years ago in Singapore culminated in marriage at Paralakhemundi in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Wednesday. Rajeev and Anna, who first met while working at a hospital in Singapore, formalised their bond in a traditional Hindu ceremony after the bride travelled from Slovakia to India.
According to family members, Rajeev and Anna stayed in touch even after Rajeev returned to India from Singapore. Their long-distance connection eventually prompted Anna to visit Paralakhemundi, where she was warmly welcomed by Rajeev’s family.
Following her arrival, the family agreed to the marriage and performed the wedding rituals as per Hindu customs. The ceremony drew local attention, particularly because of the couple’s long journey across continents to reunite and begin their life together.
Family Reactions And Statements
Anna later adopted the name Ananya following the ceremony. The couple’s wedding became a point of discussion in the locality, primarily due to the cultural and geographic differences involved.
Speaking about the relationship, Rajeev Misal, the groom, said, “She was working with me 15 years ago. I met her at a hospital, and ever since then, we have had a connection. Eventually, that framed the path to our marriage. I cannot describe my happiness in words.”
Anna, the foreign bride, said, “Indians are very nice and good. I like Indian culture.”
The couple is currently in Paralakhemundi with Rajeev’s family, who expressed happiness after meeting Anna and finalising the marriage, sources said.
