Fresh fish from Chilika, now available in Bhubaneswar

In its effort to make available lake fresh fish at the outlet, opened at Badagada area here on the occasion of Orissa Day on Friday, the society has taken steps for distribution of 1500 insulated box to the members of the society, official sources said.

They are carrying the insulated box in their boat to maintain the cold chain. Market support is key to ensure legitimate price of the fish caught by the fishers.

To ensure this society has entered in to an agreement with the FISHCOFED for marketing of the produce.

The department of fisheries & animal husbandry has provided the share capital to the central society for strengthening the Primary Fishermen Co-operative Society of Chilika.

Lake fresh Chilika fish would be bought from the fishermen by maintaining the cold chain. To maintain the cold chain the fishermen are provided with insulated fish box which can hold the fish fresh for more than 24 hour. 1500 insulated boxes are already provided to the fishermen.

Those who are health conscious would get the lake fresh Chilika fish at reasonable rate. This would also help the fishermen in getting proper price.
