Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Monday published district wise list of 15,235 meritorious +2 pass students who will receive laptops from the government under its ‘Free Laptop Scheme’.
According to the list, while 10,147 students have been selected under General category, as many as 3,057 and 2,031 students belonging to SC and ST category, respectively will receive laptops as declared by the State Government.
On August 15, the State Government will launch the scheme and in first phase, at least 3,750 laptops will be distributed among the students, officials said.
The compilation further shows, Khurda district tops with maximum 2,500 number of meritorious students followed by Cuttack with 1,789 students.
Similarly, while 1,470 number of +2 pass students have been chosen from Ganjam district alone, the number of such students stands at 1,224 for Balasore district.
Earlier under the state Youth Policy, the government had announced to provide laptops free of cost to 15,000 meritorious students passed successfully the plus II examinations.
Patnaik had said that laptops would help bridging the digital divide among students and special focus would be given to girls and students belonging to the Scheduled tribe and scheduled caste communities.
