Fraudster dupes businessman of Rs 2 lakh posing as Odisha Deputy CM’s aide, complaint lodged

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo lodged a police complaint on Wednesday after a fraudster allegedly impersonated his aide and sought money from individuals through phone calls.

The matter came to light following reports that at least one person had been duped in the name of facilitating government-related work.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister’s office, he has directed the Bhubaneswar Cyber Police to take swift action and ensure the arrest of the accused.

Businessman Duped Of Rs 2 Lakh

Police sources told The Times of India that in one instance, a local businessman transferred Rs 2 lakh to the impersonator. The fraudster allegedly posed as a close aide of Singh Deo and assured the victim that he would help expedite certain government-related work.

The deception reportedly surfaced after the Deputy Chief Minister’s office received a formal complaint from one of the victims in recent days. Following this, the matter was brought to the attention of the cyber police for investigation.

Police Urge Public Vigilance

Officials have urged citizens to exercise caution while responding to phone calls claiming to be from government functionaries or their representatives. Police have advised people to verify the identity of callers before making any financial transactions.

The investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to trace and apprehend the individual involved in the alleged impersonation and financial fraud.
