Jajpur (Orissa): At least four workers were injured in an explosion at submerged electric earth furnace of a ferro alloys plant here in Kalinganagar in Jajpur district today, police said.

The explosion took place when the workers were busy in the furnace floor of the plant this morning causing burn injuries to four of them, said official sources.

The injured persons have been identified as Manguli Dalei (23), Sambaria Dalei (38), Bhagirathi Behuray (37) all of them belong to Pankapal village and Nandaram Soren (22) of local Baghabahali village.

The injured persons were the contract workers of the plant and all have been admitted to the local Danagadi government health centre.

"Four workers of the plant sustained injuries when hot metal poured on them from the submerged electric earth furnace this morning. We have issued a prohibitory order to the factory authorities where in we have asked them to shut down the plant till the rectification is made," said Kamalendu Mohapatra, deputy director of factories and boilers.

As per preliminary report, the mishap occurred following charge eruption in the submerged electric earth furnace of the plant, he said.
