Four persons arrested by Jeypore police in car dacoity

Koraput: Four persons were arrested and forwarded to court today by Jeypore police in connection with a car dacoity case in Koraput.

According to police sources, the arrested have been identified as Daitari Khara, Upendra Khosla, G Dharmara and Babuli Phangi of Bariniput.

Sources informed that Phangi is a BJD worker and a member of Bariniput panchayat samiti.

According to sources, car driver Sujan of Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh dropped a passenger in Rayagada and was resting at Bariniput.

“They (accused Babuli and his 3 associates) snatched my mobile and car keys. One of the accused ordered his partner to start the car. I jumped from the moving car and later with the support of a local person informed police about the incident”, Sujan said.

After receiving compliant, police launched a manhunt.

“We recovered the car and arrested 4 persons. All the accused belong to Bariniput. Investigations are on to find their criminal antecedents. More information will be revealed after investigation,” Pratyush Diwakar, Jeypore SDPO said.

On being questioned about the political connections of one of the accused, Diwakar said “Investigations will reveal the details. Prima facie nothing seems to be political in the case.”
