Four killed in lightning strikes

Bhubaneswar: Four people, including three wedding guests, were killed and 15 others suffered burns in separate incidents of lightning in Khurda and Jajpur districts, police said on Saturday.

A wedding reception party ended in a tragedy as three guests were killed at a temple at Taratua village, about 30 km from here in Khurda district when a thunderbolt struck yesterday, they said.

The newly-wed couple had left the temple after the rituals when the tragedy took place.

The deceased were identified as Sarab Dehuri (65), Kathia Majhi (22) and Dilu Dehuri (14).

The injured, including five children and two women, have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Khurda for treatment, police said.

In another incident, a 25-year-old youth identified as Brundaban Behera of Haripur village in Jajpur district died after being struck by lightning on the same day, police said.
