Jajpur/ Balasore: Ensuring safety of commuters is turning out to be a major challenge for the State government as road mishaps continue to take lives across the State. As per latest reports, two persons were killed while four others sustained critical injuries in separate road mishaps in Jajpur and Balasore districts today.

In Jajpur, driver and helper of a container truck were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in hit a stationary trawler carrying iron rods near Hatakranda in Barchana area  of Jajpur district.

On being informed Barchana Police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.

In another incident, two persons were killed while four others sustained critical injuries after the ambulance they were travelling in met with an accident near Laxmannath tollgate in Jaleswar area of Balasore district today.

Later, all the injured were admitted to Basta Community Health Centre where they are currently undergoing treatment.  Sources said the vehicle was carrying a patient from West Bengal and was en route to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

In a separate incident, a bus carrying passengers from Hyderabad to Jeypore met with an accident near Konta area in Andhra Pradesh. The mishap occurred when the driver lost control and the bus turned turtle. All the passengers of the bus are reportedly safe.
