Four injured in clash
Cuttack: At least four persons were injured, one of them seriously, in a group clash at Balikuda on the outskirts of the city under Cuttack Sadar police station today, police said. The incident occurred when a group of youths belonging to Balikuda Nuabazar allegedly attacked some persons of nearby Samalsahi injuring four, police said.
The injured were admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital. The condition of one Sidhartha Debabrata was stated to be critical. Inspector Ranjit Prusty said today`s clash was a fallout of an incident on October 7 when some youths of Nuabazar had created disturbance during the Durga Puja immersion. The incident was repeated the day after when police intervened and detained two youths of Nuabazar.
About 15 persons from Nuabazar equipped with lethal weapons like swords, lathis and hockey sticks had entered Samalsahi today attacking the inhabitants indiscriminately. Police said no one was arrested yet. Investigation was on and one platoon of armed police deployed at both the places. Though the situation is stated to be normal, tension was palpable as both groups were reportedly getting ready for retaliation.
