Deogarh: Four persons, including the parents of a girl student who committed suicide after being allegedly stripped in front of her classmates by a woman school teacher in Deogarh district recently, were arrested on Friday.

Acting on inquiry reports submitted separately by cirle inspector of schools, Sambalpur, District Sarba Sikshya Abhijan and a primary education official after visiting the spot, police arrested headmaster Bibhuti Bhushan Behera and Hindi teacher Mamata Manjari Pradhan, who stripped off the girl while searching Rs 110 stolen from a student.

The girl`s parents Bhabagrahi Sahu and Jema Sahu were also arrested on charge of supressing facts as they had performed last rites of the girl without informing police after she died, Udit Narayan Pani, IIC of Kundeigola said. All the four had been fowarded to jail custody after their bail applications rejected, he said.

The incident had taken place at Khundeigola High School under Riamal block in Deogarh district on December 28. The 8th standard girl, Sani Sahu was allegedly asked to "undress" before other girls of her class while the woman teacher was searching Rs 110 stolen from one of the students.

There were 25 other girls when the incident took place. The victim, from whom the money was recovered, committed suicide the next day by consuming poison for humiliation and ignominy. Acting upon a complaint, school and mass education department and district Sarba Sikshy Abhijan (SSA) probed the matter separately. Subsequently a deputy director of primary education also conducted an inquiry, official soruces said.
