Four persons have been detained in connection with the ATM theft incident reported from Jajpur Maina, with Binjharpur police apprehending the suspects from outside Odisha as part of the ongoing investigation. The detentions came nearly two weeks after the incident, following what police described as strong intelligence inputs.

Police sources confirmed that the detained individuals are suspected to be directly involved in the theft and that all of them hail from outside the state.

ATM Uprooted And Taken Away On January 1

The incident occurred on the night of January 1, when miscreants allegedly uprooted an ATM and fled with it using a small pickup truck. Jajpur police had earlier indicated that five to seven persons were involved in the crime.

Based on CCTV footage collected from the area, police tracked the movement of the suspects and conducted follow-up investigations, which eventually led to the detention of four persons in the case.

ATM And Vehicle Abandoned

As per reports, the accused later abandoned both the pickup truck and the ATM machine before fleeing with the cash. Police said the breakthrough came after nearly 15 days, when actionable intelligence was received, enabling teams to locate and detain the suspects.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that some of the accused are from Kolkata, while others hail from Bengaluru. Police sources reiterated that none of the detained individuals are from Odisha.

More Details Awaited

Police officials stated that several aspects of the investigation are still being examined and that certain details were not disclosed at the time of reporting. They assured that more information would be shared during a press meet.

Jajpur police, however, did not confirm reports suggesting that one of the accused may have fled to Bangladesh.
