Berhampur: Four persons, including two traders were arrested for allegedly selling salt at higher prices at Aska road in this town at Odisha's Ganjam district.

"We have arrested S.Tejeswara Patra and A.Bima Patra, grocery shop owners and their two workers for selling higher prices of the salt yesterday," said Inspector In-Charge of Bada Bazar police station Anil Kumar Mohanty.

Police said they were allegedly selling salt at double the price, while a large number of buyers made a beeline to purchase the item. They were arrested under the section 420 of IPC, Mohanty said.

District administration has warned that action would be taken against those taking advantage of the rumour about shortage and selling salt at higher rate.

Panic buying of salt was seen in the town since Monday, even though the government said there was no scarcity of salt in the state. People made a beeline at shops in Aska Road here to buy salt fearing the commodity might not be available after three to four days.
