Former Berhampur Mayor’s father arrested

Berhampur: Gosaninuagaon Police today arrested Ramakrushna Dash alias Khali, the father of former city Mayor Siba Sankar Dash from his house in Gosaninuagaon area in the city. Khali was reportedly absconding as over 19 cases were pending against him.

Today morning, acting on a tip-off about Khali Dash arriving at his home, police raided the place and arrested him.

Following his arrest, Berhampur SDPO Bishnuprasad Pati said that an arrest warrant was issued against Dash and other noted habitual offenders, adding that police officials have already initiated extensive measures to ensure peaceful elections.

“Police have started special warrant drives against anti-socials in the run-up to the general elections. Dash was arrested from his house after a warrant was issued against him,” said Pati.

It is pertinent to mention here that former mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), Siba Shankar Dash alias Pintu, has also been lodged in the jail after being arrested in January last year on charges of allegedly grabbing land of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Ganjam district.

Das was the city Mayor while in the BJD. Later, he resigned from the party and contested from Berhampur assembly constituency on BJP ticket in 2014, which he lost.
