The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) has issued a clear warning that strict action will be taken against individuals found deliberately setting forest fires. Authorities have also urged public cooperation in reporting fire incidents at the earliest.

Enhanced Surveillance and Technology Deployment

As part of the prevention strategy, 20,461 fire lines have been created to help control and contain forest fires. Surveillance has been strengthened through the installation of cameras in forest regions of Similipal and Rourkela. Mini drones are being deployed at sensitive locations to monitor fire-prone areas, PCCF K. Murugesan said.

Increased Manpower and Improved Preparedness

Data indicates a reduction in fire incidents, with 670 fire points reported in January last year compared to 341 points during the same period this year. To further strengthen preparedness, 334 forest fire protection teams have been deployed across the state.

Additionally, 5,000 leaf blowers have been kept ready for rapid fire control operations. Awareness campaigns on forest fire prevention have been conducted in 336 villages. Around 200 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also been provided with specialised training to support firefighting efforts.
