Foreign liquor seized during licence inspection at medicine shop in Odisha

In an unusual incident, a major haul of liquor was seized from a medicine shop in Bhadrak city’s Bypass area on Thursday.

As per reports, the incident came to light when a Health Department team visited the shop to conduct a routine license inspection.

During the inspection, officials reportedly discovered several cartons of foreign liquor stored inside the medicine shop. The team immediately alerted the local police about the development.

Subsequently, Bhadrak Town police reached the spot, following which a raid was carried out. The operation is still underway.

As per sources, it has been learnt that although the medicine shop has been operating for a long time, its license has not been renewed since 2022. Now, a question mark has been raised over the efficiency of the Excise Department following the development.

"A routine licence inspection was being carried out at the medicine shop. During the inspection, we discovered foreign liquor stored inside the premises. We have informed the local police about the development, as the matter does not fall under our jurisdiction. The police will conduct further investigation," said Drug Inspector Deepak Jena.

The reaction from the concerned medicine shop about the development has not yet been received.
