Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested a Food Safety Officer and a senior helper while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 to renew a food license of a hotel. The food safety officer identified as Tapaswini Behera and senior helper Dharmananda Nayak of Berhampur Municipal Corporation were caught red-handed by the vigilance sleuths while accepting the bribe.

Speaking to media, Vigilance SP, Maydhar Swain said "Tapaswini had reportedly sought a bribe of Rs 1,000 from Ramesh Padhi, a hotel owner for renewal of food license. Ramesh had lodged a formal complaint against Tapaswini yesterday."

According to sources, the Vigilance officials laid trap to nab Tapaswini. Ramesh sent the bribe money through Dharmananda to Tapaswini, who had kept it in her drawer. Subsequently, Vigilance sleuths reached the spot and nabbed Tapaswini & Dhamananda after recovering the money.
