Bhubaneswar: Torrential rain for the last twelve hours in the catchment areas has once again created flood like situation in river Hati with as many as five villages of Kalampur block in Kalahandi district marooned on Monday.

The villages are Biripur, Matiala, Demra, Balichhata and Poruagada.

Disruption in road communications following the wash out of two fair weather bridges connecting Kalampur and Junagarh has also affected rescue operations in these villages. Efforts are on by the district administration to shift the affected people to safer places.

 
According to reports reaching here, the flood water is flowing at a height of above 2 feet over NH-26 at Bhawanipatna even as the road communication between Bhawanipatna and Nabrangpur has been snapped.

The State Highway between Junagarh and Dharmagada has also been cut off due to the incessant rain.

Meanwhile, power generation at the 600 MW Upper Indravati hydro-power plant was disrupted due to the flash flood in river Hati.

A fortnight ago heavy downpour was reported in different places of the district with Thuamul-Rampur block recording rainfall of 310 mm, Kalampur-240 mm, Junagarh-215 mm and Jayaptna-204 mm.
