Five temples, one house targeted in overnight thefts in Kendrapara

A series of thefts was reported from multiple temples under the Nikirai police station limits in Kendrapara district after miscreants allegedly carried out coordinated break-ins late Thursday night. In a single night, five temples were targeted, while a theft was also reported from a private residence in the same area, raising concerns over local security.

According to preliminary information, the miscreants broke open the locks of the temples and decamped with the valuables kept inside the premises. Gold and silver ornaments belonging to the deities, including crowns, eyes and jewellery, were reportedly stolen. Brass utensils used for religious rituals were also taken away.

The thieves also allegedly looted cash from donation boxes installed inside the temples. However, the exact value of the stolen items is yet to be ascertained.

Private Residence Also Targeted

In addition to the temple thefts, a separate incident of burglary was reported from a private house in the same police station area during the same night. Police are examining whether the incidents are linked and part of a single operation.

Police Begin Investigation

Upon receiving information, police personnel reached the affected locations and launched an investigation. Officials inspected the temple premises and recorded details of the stolen items as part of the preliminary inquiry.

Efforts are underway to trace the miscreants, and police are examining possible leads to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved in the thefts.
