Police on Sunday apprehended five juveniles in connection with the murder of a young man at Kukurikani in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district. The accused were later produced before the Juvenile Court, officials said.
The incident took place in the Kukurikani area, where the victim was allegedly killed by the juveniles following a dispute over a silver chain. According to police, the accused disposed of the body after committing the crime.
Body Dumped After Murder
Police investigations revealed that after killing the youth, the juveniles wrapped the body in polythene and dumped it in a nearby forest area. Following the recovery of the body, police launched an intensive probe, which led to the apprehension of all five accused.
During the investigation, the silver chain, believed to be the motive behind the crime, was recovered from the possession of the juveniles, strengthening the case against them.
Accused Identified As School Dropouts
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police G.R. Raghavendra said all the accused are juveniles and school dropouts. He added that the murder was the result of sudden provocation.

“We have apprehended five juveniles in connection with the murder in the Kukurikani forest area. A silver chain has been seized from their possession. The offence was committed following sudden provocation over the silver chain,” the SP said.
