Five police personnel killed, three critical in head-on collision between trailer-SUV in Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Five police personnel were killed and three others critically injured in a tragic head-on collision between a speeding trailer and a Bolero vehicle in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district early on Sunday morning. The devastating accident occurred at dawn in front of the Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station, sending shockwaves across the district and the state police fraternity.

According to preliminary information, the police vehicle was on duty when it collided with a fast-moving trailer that was approaching from the opposite direction. The impact of the crash was extremely severe, leaving the Bolero badly mangled. Five police personnel died on the spot due to the intensity of the collision.

The deceased have been identified as APR personnel Kashiram Bhoi and Debadatta Sa, Drill Sub-Inspector Niranjan Kujur, APR Havildar Lingaraj Dhurua, and Home Guard Bhaktabandhu Mirdha. Their sudden demise has left their families, colleagues, and the local community in deep mourning.

Three Sustain Serious Injuries

Three others, two APR personnel and a sergeant, sustained grievous injuries in the accident. They were immediately rescued and rushed to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said their condition remains critical and they are under close medical supervision.

Trailer Driver Detained

Police have detained the trailer driver for questioning and launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Senior police officials visited the accident site shortly after the incident to take stock of the situation. The tragic mishap has cast a pall of gloom over Jharsuguda, with many expressing grief over the loss of brave personnel in the line of duty.
