Baripada: With the arrest of five poachers from Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) area, forest officials today claimed to have busted an elephant poaching gang in Mayurbhanj district.

In a special operation, forest officials arrested the five poachers from Asurakhal area located in Satkosia range of Karanjia forest division of STR on Saturday, DFO, Baripada, Bijaya Panda said.

Two pieces of ivory weighing about 12 kg were also recovered from the gang during the joint raid. The ivory pieces were 35 cm and 40 cm long, Panda said. A motor-cycle was also seized from the poachers, he said.
