Jajpur: Five persons were injured in a clash today between two groups over construction of a concrete road linking Gopinathapur and Dihakainchi villages in Jajpur district, police said.

The incident occured when a group of people led by a contractor, Ashok Kumar Malick of Badakainchi village, reached the construction site and protested against the construction work which was being carried out by another contractor, Narayan Swain and his supporters of local Dihakainchi village. A scuffle then ensued between the two groups and soon they started hurling stones at each other leaving five persons injured, police said.

The injured have been admitted to the government hospital at Madhuban, police said. No arrest had been made so far and investigation was on, Inspector-in- charge of Kuakhia police station Atul Krishna Das said adding two complaints had been received from both sides.

The clash took place a day after Swain was awarded the road construction work of Rs 2.5 lakh by the Rasulpur block authorities. Two platoons of police force have been deployed in the village to avoid any further untoward incident. The construction work has been stopped by the district administration, police said.
