Bargarh: Five women labourers were killed and five others critically injured when the mini-truck in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck at Pathla junction on NH-6, about five km from here on Sunday, police said.

The labourers were working in a private spinning mill at Dasamaila under Sohela police station. The mishap occurred when they were returning to their home at Tura and adjoining areas under Bargarh police station, the sources said.

"The deceased had sustained serious injury in the mishap and were declared brought dead at the hospital", chief district medical officer (CDMO), Bargarh, Umesh Tripathy said.

The five injured persons have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here for treatment and their condition was stated to be critical.

The deceased were identified as Bhumisuta Suna, Baidehi Kumbhakar, Manasi Nag, Gita Nag and Netra Kollet.

Investigation into the incident was continuing, police said.
