Bhubaneswar: Former Kendrapara MP Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda on Tuesday met Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and urged her to accept his resignation.

Panda bid adieu to 18 years of his association with the House and expressed his inability to represent the BJD anymore since the party had strayed away from its original principles. Sharing this on social media platform Twitter, Panda stated, “As Parliament's monsoon session begins, i say adieu, after 18 yrs, 3 months, 2 wks and 1 day.  Met Hon' Speaker yesterday  & said i cannot represent my former party anymore, it has strayed too far from its original principles & so, requested her to accept my resignation from LokSabha.”

Panda had resigned from the party on May 28 and subsequently resigned as member of the Lok Sabha on June 12.

However, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, after a customary meeting with Panda on his resignation, had asked him to give it a second thought.
