Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the fire tragedy at a coaching centre in Gujarat’s Surat which took the lives of 22 students, the Odisha Fire Department today inspected safety arrangements at various coaching centres in twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

A total of 22 teams of the Fire Department have been formed to inspect the coaching centres. One of the teams reached Aakash Institute in Bhubaneswar today morning and conducted the safety inspection.

“We are conducting inspection in various coaching institutes across Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and we have been directed to check the safety measures in those organisations,” informed Deputy Fire Officer Ramesh Chandra Majhi while conducting inspection at Akash Institute.

An official of Akash Institute, said, “Though we had fire safety measures in our institute, we have doubled it after the Surat tragedy so that such incidents can be avoided.”

Meanwhile, Director General of Fire Services, BK Sharma, said that those institutions found flouting fire safety norms will be shut down till further orders.
