A fire broke out in the Bada Danda area near the Sri Jagannath Temple late Sunday night, triggering concern among devotees and local residents.
According to sources, the blaze originated in an electrical transformer located approximately 100 metres from the temple premises. The incident occurred during ongoing temple rituals, when devotees were standing in queues for darshan.
Eyewitnesses said the transformer remained engulfed in flames for over an hour before the fire was brought under control. On receiving information, fire services personnel rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby establishments.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. While officials have not confirmed any foul play, preliminary speculation suggests that a short circuit could have triggered the incident. Authorities have stated that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause.
