Rourkela: At least seven persons sustained burn injuries after fire broke out in a hotel at Panposh area in Rourkela today. Though the exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the incident occurred due to some leakage in LPG cylinder or gas pipe. Officials of fire services department are initiating further investigation in this connection, sources said.

The incident occurred at around 8: 30 AM today when the owner and staff of Pancham hotel were busy in cooking. Several property including ceiling and other articles of the hotel have been reduced to ashes in the fire mishap. The situation was brought to control only after a team of fire fighters reached the spot and doused the flames.

“We were standing at the counter and all of a sudden the fire engulfed the hotel,” said Pradip Mahakud, a salesman.

Following the incident, the injured were immediately rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital for treatment and their condition is now said to be stable.

“As I was at home when the incident occurred, I do not have adequate information regarding what actually triggered the fire. My brother and other staff sustained minor injuries in the fire mishap,” said Ramesh Jaiswal, owner of the hotel.
