Patnagarh: A major fire broke out at the Samaleswari Cotton Mill in Patnagarh area in Bolangir district last night gutting cotton worth Rs 2.5 crore.

According to sources, the fire broke out in the factory situated in Chacherabenga under Belpara block late on Friday night. Around 220 tonnes of cotton stored in the mill were reduced to ashes. The market value of the cotton destroyed in fire has been pegged at Rs 2.5 crore.

The Belpara fire tending officials rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. However, the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

“Fire was spreading all over the cotton mill and we took around 2 to 3 hours to douse the fire completely,” said a fire fighting official.

No casualties were reported in the incident.
