Keonjhar: Protesting discontinuation of bus services (for school purpose) by a private firm, hundreds of school students sat on dharna near Serenda chhak under Barbil police limits here on Saturday.

Holding placards which said 'education is our right', students staged the demonstration which was also supported by teachers and local residents.

As per reports, studies of as many as 300 students have been adversely affected since last one month following discontinuance of the school bus services by a private firm, Mesco steel.

Even though the local people's representative and administration were apprised about the problems faced by the students, no steps were taken so far in this regard, alleged local residents.

"The private companies are earning crores but they don't even bother about the people staying here. The bus services meant for our children to go to school was also stopped which resulted in discontinuance of their studies," rued a local.

"The protest against these selfish and insensitive companies will continue till the bus services are again resumed," said agitator.

Meanwhile, the steel firm's response on the allegations is yet to be received.
