Rourkela: In order to strengthen emergency response system and curb rising crimes, as many as 25 Police Control Room (PCR) vans were rolled out in Rourkela police district on Sunday.

Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay flagged off the PCR vans and an all new modern integrated district police control room at Udit Nagar ground here today during his one-day visit to the Steel City.

According to reports, the DGP reached Rourkela by train in the morning and held discussion with superintendents of police (SPs) of three police districts—Rourkela, Sundergarh and Keonjhar—and western range DIG Kavita Jalan for about three hours. Various keys issues like crime, law and order, Maoist activities, industrial safety and Mo Sarkar were reviewed during the meeting.

“A review meeting was held with officials of three police districts of western range. The PCR van and control room services have been launched today with an aim to reach out to people immediately in Maoist affected and non-affected areas.”

Residents of Rourkela have expressed happiness over the new arrangements and said it will help control the crimes and help people during emergencies.

“There is a spurt in crimes especially against women across Odisha as well as the country. As the PCR van services have been launched in Rourkela, we will obviously feel safe now,” said Sangita Mohapatra, a resident of Rourkela.

Another resident, Manisha Swain also echoed the same opinion. “As 25 PCR vans will ply on the city streets, we will certainly feel safe from chain snatching and other crimes.”
