Bhubaneswar: Infighting within the BJD's Koraput district unit surfaced after party leader of the youth wing openly threatened to quit indirectly pointing fingers at the newly appointed district unit chief.

During the welcome ceremony of the newly-appointed Koraput district unit president of BJD, Ishwar Panigrahy today, the State Secretary of the Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) Dharmendra Adhikari said that the leaders who understand people's problems at the grassroots should be given the baton of the party.

Taking an indirect dig at the newly-appointed district president, Adhikari said those who work like 'chamchas of the netas' should not be allowed to lead the party.

Adhikari further added that he will quit the party if a nominated leader who has earned his post through 'chamchagiri’ gets as much importance as a leader who has worked hard for the people.

Meanwhile, former minister and senior leader of the party, Rabi Nanda said that any new leader whosoever it may be deserves to be given a chance to prove. "Any appointment is a careful choice of the party after assessing an individual's talents, so there is nothing to worry in this regard," said Nanda.

Earlier last month, rift within the party's Koraput unit came to fore after a block president of the party Saheb Khila openly lashed out at senior leaders of the party who are in charge of the district affairs.
