Fear of loss forced Naveen to contest from Bijepur: BJP
Bhubaneswar: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today leveled serious allegations over Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik contesting from two Assembly constituencies, Hinjili and Bijepur, by producing a letter of Odisha Police Intelligence Branch, which recommended that Naveen should not contest from Hinjili.
State BJP Yuva Morcha president, Tankadhar Tripathy on Monday alleged that the CM is playing with the sentiments of the people of western Odisha by claiming that he is concerned about the region and so, decided to contest from the Bijepur Assembly constituency. However, the truth and secret behind the ‘Bijepur move’ is different, he said.
“Out of fear, the CM has run to Bijepur, but he will have to face defeat there too. Naveen has always betrayed the people of western Odisha, be it on the High Court bench issue, farmer suicides, unemployment or human trafficking,” alleged Tripathy.
The youth wing chief also produced a letter, claiming it to be making rounds on social media, pertaining to a review survey of Hinjili carried out by the State Intelligence Branch of Odisha Police.
“The Chief Minister is still popular but the lack of amenities and infrastructure is causing significant dissatisfaction among the local people. Multiple instances of false disbursement under KALIA scheme has caused anger among the farming community. Post cyclone relief work has reached only those who are close to the local unit of the Biju Janata Dal party causing resentment in the rest of the constituency. Keeping in mind the above, it is recommended that CM Naveen Patnaik should not contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Hinjili constituency,” the letter read.
The letter also recommended the following alternative Assembly seats for the CM to contest so that he can win the elections at ease:
- Rourkela, Sundargarh district
- Bijepur, Bargarh district
- Bolangir, Bolangir district
- Titlagarh, Bolangir district
On the letter produced by the BJP, Odisha DGP today tweeted, “A fake document purported to be assessment report of some assembly segments by Odisha Police Intelligence Dept has been shown in a press meet by a political party. The document is absolutely fake & fabricated. An FIR is being registered in this matter.”
