Bolangir: A man allegedly committed suicide by taking pesticide and forced his two minor sons to take it leaving them critically ill at Sirni village in Bolangir district on Monday, police said.

While Suresh Putel (35) was declared brought dead at a hospital, his two minor sons aged five and three were rushed to VSS Medical College Hospital in critical condition, Additional SP Srikant Mishra said.

The incident occurred when Suresh along with his wife, two sons and father-in-law had gone to the cotton field this morning. When the wife and father-in-law returned to home in the afternoon, Suresh and his two sons did not.

"We found three of them lying in unconscious state in the field," Suresh`s wife told police adding that they had consumed some pesticide used for cotton cultivation. The cause of suicide was attibuted to family quarrel, he said.
