Kendrapara: The Biju Janata Dal seems to be in no mood to show mercy to the farmers, as members of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangthan (NNKS) lodged a police complaint against BJD's Kendrapara district unit president Dhruba Sahoo alleging that he along with his supporters thrashed them during a rally here on Sunday.

As per reports, the face-off ensued when activists of the farmers' body prevented Sahoo and his supporters during Jana Sampark rally organised by BJD at Malipur in Pattamundai, from entering the village. Irate over this, the BJD leader allegedly thrashed the NNKS members.

"When we stopped Dhruba Sahoo and his supporters as part of our agitation, they thrashed us mercilessly and issued life threat to us," alleged Dolagobinda Sahoo, Pattamundai block coordinator of NNKS.

Sources said a complaint has been lodged against three persons including Dhruba Sahoo and the block president.

However, Sahoo in his reaction termed the charges as 'baseless'. "During the rally, I could not see any NNKS member. Such allegations are being made by them as it’s purely a part of the conspiracy by the Opposition," he added.
