Berhampur: The farmers of Thuruburai village under Seragada block of Ganjam district today approached the district collector alleging non-payment of their paddy dues by a rice miller.

According to sources, more than 40 farmers from Thuruburai village had sold their paddy to a rice miller Laxmi Nursingha, in the area. However, they have alleged that even after 13 months, they have not received any payment for the same.

The 40-odd farmers further alleged that despite having raised the issue with the local Police, Tehsildar and BDO a number of times, they didn’t pay any heed.

“The miller is not giving our dues citing false reasons. It’s disappointing that we have to fight for the dues. It's our hard earned money,” said a farmer.

“We have approached almost all the officials but no action has been taken so far. We have come to the office of district collector now and this is our last hope,” said another farmer.

Responding to the allegations, Chhatrapur Additional District Magistrate Kovind Kumar Sahoo informed that action will be taken against the concerned miller if he doesn't cooperate. “I have had discussions with the concerned cooperative society. I will try to sort out the issue in a couple of days. If the concerned miller will not co-operate with us, then a case will be registered and action would be taken against him.”
