A tragic incident in Rajnagar of Kendrapara district triggered public outrage after the wife of a deceased farmer fell at the feet of the Tehsildar, pleading for justice.
The deceased farmer, Trilochan Nayak of Junagadi village, had reportedly gone through severe mental distress while attempting to sell his paddy. His wife, Bharati Nayak, has alleged that her husband was harassed by a local miller and the secretary of the Dangamal cooperative society during the procurement process.

According to her complaint, repeated pressure and alleged misconduct by the officials pushed her husband into extreme distress, ultimately leading to his death.

Following the allegations, the Rajnagar Tehsildar visited the grieving family to assess the situation. In an emotional scene, Bharati Nayak broke down in tears and reportedly held the Tehsildar’s feet, demanding strict action against those she holds responsible for her husband’s death. She has directly accused the cooperative society secretary and the miller of being accountable for the tragedy.
Probe Launched
Acting on the directions of the District Collector, a special investigation team has been constituted to probe the matter. The Tehsildar stated that the receipt issued by the miller and CCTV footage from the procurement centre will be thoroughly examined as part of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, the administration has provided immediate financial assistance of Rs 20,000 to the bereaved family. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
“On the orders of the District Collector, we reached out to the deceased’s family and learnt about their socio-economic condition, how many children he has, where they are studying, and their source of income. We have also extended a help of Rs 20,000 from Red Cross. All these details will be submitted before senior officials, following which necessary help will be provided to the family,” informed the local Tehsildar Jisukrishna Das.
