Efforts to Save Him Fail
After consuming the pesticide, the farmer was taken to the Mohana Community Health Centre in critical condition. Despite immediate treatment and efforts to shift him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, he succumbed en route.
Borrowed Funds and Mounting Debt
"The corn maize was destroyed during the heavy rainfall on Dussehra which also led to the destruction of vegetables. He had borrowed some money and was unable to repay the loan, because of which he ended his life. Maybe he had borrowed around Rs 50,000-60,000. We got to know he did borrowed money from people. He consumed pesticide at home, and after that we took him to nearby medical in Mohana. There, doctors did everything they could and told us to shift him to Berhampur. We lost him midway and we came back to Mohana and sent his body for post mortem," said his brother Satrughana Nayak.
Police Launch Investigation
Local police have registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination. An inquiry is underway to determine the precise circumstances leading to the tragedy.
