Khurda: Cyclone Fani-affected residents of Sadheigada village in Brajamohanpur panchayat of Khurda district today detained the panchayat executive officer and the block Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) for more than four hours over alleged irregularities in preparation of list of cyclone-affected people.

The villagers alleged that the local administration has prepared faulty reports of and have shown undue favors in preparing the list of cyclone-affected people.

Protesting such lapses, the villagers detained the two government officials today who visited the village to prepare the list of damages caused by the cyclonic storm.

“We request the government officials to check some houses in the village which are damaged by the cyclone, but they did not listen to us and said we have not received any order from higher authorities,” said Manas Sahu, a villager.

“Some residents, whose houses were completely damaged by the cyclone, are not in the list, but a bank employee whose house suffered no damages has been added to the list,” alleged Nirod Patnaik, another local.

The officials have admitted mistakes in the list.

“The Revenue Inspector submitted a report to the Tehsildar after conducting a door-to-door survey. However, during our visit we found some mistakes,” said Laxmidhar Samantaray, the Brajamohanpur panchayat executive officer.

“The BDO has been alerted in this regard and the higher authorities will take steps accordingly,” Samantaray added.
