Fake zarda manufacturing unit busted in Odisha, goods worth over Rs 5 lakh seized

In a major crackdown, police have unearthed a fake zarda manufacturing unit and seized a huge quantity of counterfeit zarda along with manufacturing equipment from the Town Police Station area in Bhadrak on Friday.

According to reports, Town Police apprehended a man near the New Bus Stand in Bhadrak while he was transporting a large quantity of fake zarda on a scooter. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had been operating a counterfeit zarda manufacturing unit in the Kazimahala area of Bhadrak town for a long time and supplying the spurious product to various places within and outside the district.

Acting on the information, police conducted a raid at the manufacturing unit and seized a substantial quantity of fake zarda of various reputed brands. In addition to the counterfeit products, police also confiscated logos, stickers, chemicals, manufacturing machines, a packing machine, and the scooter used for transportation.

One person has been detained in connection with the illegal trade. Police officials stated that the estimated value of the seized items is over Rs 5 lakh.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
