Fake sweeper job scam: OTV gets exclusive video of prime accused demanding money from aspirants

In a major development in the fake sweeper job scam, OTV has obtained video footage showing the key accused, Padmavati Tandi and Rahul Ray openly demanding money from aspirants in exchange for government jobs. The visuals reveal how the duo assured job seekers of placement as sweepers in government institutions and collected thousands of rupees from each person. Sources said Padmabati personally negotiated with aspirants, while Rahul played an active role in collecting cash.

Police have seized around Rs 62 lakh from the possession of the accused involved in the fake sweeper job scam, officials said. However, the total amount collected through the fraud is estimated to have exceeded Rs 2 crore.

According to investigators, the accused allegedly duped people from Sambalpur, Bargarh, Boudh, and Sonepur districts, collecting between Rs 12,000 and Rs 15,000 from each aspirant in exchange for fake job offers.

Authorities estimate that nearly 1,800 individuals may have fallen victim to the racket, which promised employment in return for payment. The investigation into the full extent of the scam is currently underway.

Modus Operandi Of The Scam

According to the Burla Police, the accused posed as intermediaries capable of securing Class-IV sweeper jobs in government offices. They reportedly used fake documents, forged recommendation letters, and organised small community meetings to lure victims.

Sambalpur Administration Issues Public Warning

Meanwhile, as reports of the racket spread, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) released a public advisory warning citizens to remain alert against fake job advertisements and false recruitment agents claiming to have official links with the civic body.

Meanwhile, hundreds of victims have lodged complaints with the SP’s office, demanding justice and a refund of the defrauded money. Sambalpur police have intensified investigations to identify other members of the racket and trace the remaining funds.
