Fake lottery racket uncovered in Rourkela, 4 arrested; Rs 25 lakh seized

Police in Rourkela have arrested four persons in connection with a major lottery fraud case involving the alleged cheating of lakhs of rupees. The accused reportedly lured people with promises of winning large sums of money by purchasing low-cost lottery tickets priced at Rs 6 and Rs 10, before defrauding them.

Gang Busted, Huge Seizure Made

The four-member gang was apprehended by the Rourkela Plant Site police. During the operation, police seized around Rs 25 lakh in cash along with thousands of lottery tickets and related materials.

Rourkela Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani said that the key accused in the case has already been arrested and that preliminary findings suggest the gang is part of a larger fraud network operating across multiple states.

Interstate Links Under Probe

Police officials said more than Rs 5 lakh has been recovered so far, while further investigation is underway to trace other active members of the gang. Authorities are also probing possible interstate connections to determine the full extent of the network.

SP Wadhwani said strict legal action would be taken if further evidence of the gang’s operations in other states emerges.

Police have warned residents to remain alert against lottery-related fraud and advised them to report any suspicious activities immediately. Officials said the case highlights the growing sophistication of fraud networks that exploit unsuspecting people by offering false promises of easy money.

Rourkela police have assured that the investigation will continue until the entire network is dismantled and stringent action is taken to prevent similar scams in the future.
