Cuttack: In a crackdown on adulteration units, the Commissionerate police has busted a fake cement factory in Jagatpur Industrial Estate in Cuttack and arrested the owner of the unit.

Officials of Jagatpur Police Station conducted surprise raid at the unit and seized more than 710 fake cement bags of several brands and processing machineries from three different godowns.

Police said that the factory was producing fake cement in the name of as many as 15 different brands.

Jagatpur Police Station IIC Biranchi Padhi said the manufacturer used to mix several raw materials like marble dust, chemical colours and little white cement to prepare the yield and sell them at higher prices in the name of different brands.

The arrested owner of the cement unit, Sadashib Behera said that he used to spend about Rs 600 to prepare each bag of cement and sell them at a profit of Rs 50.

“I had been running the cement unit for the last one year but with marginal profits,” said Sadashib.

Earlier in May, the twin city police had busted a similar fake cement unit from Jagatpur Industrial Estate and seized around 7,500 fake cement bags and arrested the factory owner. Two months later, in August, the police also traced duplicate cement manufacturing unit operating at Peer Bazaar area under Sadar police limits of Cuttack.
